I used VirtualBox and here's the file it downloaded

You can install Windows using Boot Camp or using a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
A .exe file is a Windows executable file. If you need help with VirtualBox you should consult the VirtualBox Help/Support pages. The Mac version is a .dmg download.
