Delete Downloads folder - Catalina

Hi

Im on a imac late 2015. Just upgraded from EI Captain to Catalina.

My Finder freezes every time I open the Downloads folder.

I tried deleting everything in it - but the finder freezes.

Can I delete it through terminal? And then just recreate a new Downloads Folder?

What are the exact steps and commands.

I'm having this issue in which I can't get rid of several of the install files for programs I've downloaded. This is happening for some, but not all programs I've downloaded - namely, Chrome, GIMP, and IPVanish. When I try to delete the files that show up on my desktop, it says they're in use. So I go to Finder and see that all these files are open under "Locations." I eject them (assuming that their work is done), only to find that when I try to open any of these programs, I have to repeat the install process, and am back where I started. Download folder on Macbook is empty but still uses hard drive space Hi Here is what happened: I tried to download a huge file from Google Drive onto Downloads folder on my Macbook Pro (macOS Mojave) which failed as I run out of disk space on my computer. I deleted all the files in the Downloads folder, emptied the Bin, but "Get info" on the Downloads folder shows that there is still 80GB in that folder / 1 item which I assume is the file I tried to download. Where is that file? How do I empty the Downloads folder when there are no files for me to select? Thank you for your help in advance.

Catalina file and folder problems I just updated to Catalina 10.15.01 and I'm not able to move the files or folder to trash. Or move files to another folder. Any one has same problem, or any solution?
