1). Backup to iCloud

2) Go to Settings / General / Erase Data [at the bottom]

This will remove all the data and you then need to resign into the iPad like it was new. It will then download what was saved to iCloud

Tried everything and nothing worked. Finally made sure all information was saved, backed up iPhone then did a full reset. got rid of 90% of "other." Apple bug? Apple used to be bulletproof but is not perfect anymore.

Have not been able to sync Calendars and Contact on my iPhone SE for the last 4 releases. Same thing, hard to get support and quality of releases slipping... iPhone without sync to outlook is useless and creates havoc...

Other is all data on the phone that is not shown in the colored graph categories when you go to Settings/General/iPhone Storage. Other is typically 1-2 GB, but can be more if you have a lot of app data. If it is very large (>10GB) there may be storage corruption on your phone, usually caused by an interrupted sync. To fix this follow these steps:

How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  • Other: Non-removable mobile assets, like Siri voices, fonts, dictionaries, non-removable logs and caches, Spotlight index, and system data, such as Keychain and CloudKit Database. Cached files can't be deleted by the system.
  • System: Space taken by the operating system. This can vary based on your device and model.

About cached files in "Other"

Finder and iTunes categorize cached music, videos, and photos as Other instead of actual songs, videos, or photos. Cached files are created when you stream or view content like music, videos, and photos. When you stream music or video, that content is stored as cached files on your device so you can quickly access it again.

Your device automatically removes cached files and temporary files when your device needs more space.

If storage on your device differs from what you see in Finder or iTunes

Since Finder and iTunes categorize cached files as Other, reported usage for Music or Videos might differ. To view usage on your device, go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage.

If you want to delete the cached files from your device

Your device automatically deletes cached files and temporary files when it needs more space. You don't need to delete them yourself.

Seems like a bug in the os, needs to be fixed.

Yes, it is probably a bug. There is a workaround that is mentioned in this thread, but the better approach is to use the Contact Support link at the top of this page and ask to speak to a senior advisor. And it probably will be fixed, but only by releasing an iOS update, and updates don’t occur all that often because they need to be thoroughly tested.

I had the same problem and finally had to use iCloud against my wishes, back everything up and reset my iPhone. This commenter is correct in his observation, Apple products used to be bulletproof, no bugs, no major problems but the last two years Apple quality has fallen badly. I still can't sync my Outlook Calendars and Contacts for almost a year. without the sync of Calendar and Contacts my iPhone is a brick...

It happened a couple of releases ago then self corrected. Now with the latest release it is back and worse. Have tried everything, deleting all apps, offloading apps nothing works, next step is complete reset but that is time consuming and cumbersome. Ridiculous 3 GB apps and data, 5 GB system and 8 GB other. If my iPhone was heavier I could use it as a brick but it is too light. I have not been able to sync outlook calendars or contacts for 3 releases... Maybe time to switch manufacturers ;-(
