Reset on Iphone 6S without passcode

I am trying to reset without restore an Iphone 6S that I have forgotten the passcode for. I tried pressing the home button and then plugging into computer. The restore screen never displays.

With a forgotten passcode, you cannot reset without a restore.

If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support

Yes, you’re out of luck unless you can reconstruct his Apple ID and it’s password.

Dang...I might not be using the right terms. So just to clarify. I had my elderly dad on my family plan. It is his phone. He never had it attached to a computer ever. He has since forgotten the passcode and his Apple information. I don’t want to stress him out by asking him lots of questions to try and hit upon it. I was going to use it as a device for my son to play games on. So without his Apple ID and no passcode we are out of luck to do a factory reset situation? Thanks so much for your reply!
