If you recently factory reset your device or got a new device, then:

  1. Unpair and re-pair watch your device post-reset or post-upgrade.

If not, then:

  1. Go to Watch App>Privacy>Reset Fitness Calibration
  2. Start Outdoor walk exercise on the watch
  3. Maintain your walk uninterrupted for 15-20 min.
    1. It will calibrate from the first exercise for the first 15-20. If you stop to pet a dog or take a break, it may hinder your results.

See if it tracks your walk correctly.

If this does not work, then:

  1. Unpair the Apple Watch
  2. Pair the Apple Watch and set up as a NEW watch
  3. Start Outdoor walk exercise on the watch
  4. Maintain your walk uninterrupted for 15-20 min.
    1. It will calibrate from the first exercise for the first 15-20. If you stop to pet a dog or take a break, it may hinder your results.

See if it tracks your walk correctly.

If all of this works correctly and your main emphasis is that is does not AUTOMATICALLY track your outdoor walk after already calibrating it manually for the outdoor walk exercise. Then your expectations of the watch are off; it will never AUTOMATICALLY start an exercise for you. If it perceives that your are exercising by your movement, it will say "It looks like you're exercising, Start outdoor walk?" and you will have to click on the watch to start the exercise.
