Separating AppleID from husband's

My husband and i have separate apple phones. But we have the same Apple ID. His contacts show up on my phone and visa versa. He recently erased all of my contacts on his phone without realizing I would lose them on mine as well.

How can we separate our phone information by getting a new apple id for him while not losing information we want to keep?

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 13

See How to create a new Apple ID https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204316. See the data implications below.

Some of these things will apply even though not changing Apple IDWhat to do after you change your Apple ID or password https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204071

Keep in mind that some things available under a first Apple ID will not be available under a new Apple ID. For example, you won’t be able to transfer anything purchased from the App and iTunes Stores to the new ID. And, there are other issues to be addressed.
