Notification for iPhone out of range on Apple Watch

Hi, I am bringing this up again. I have submitted a feature request to apple. My 10 year old daughter uses her apple watch and iPhone to monitor her blood sugar and administer insulin for her type 1 diabetes 24 hours a day. When she leaves her phone behind it cripples the whole system and creates potentially serious health problems for her. We desperately need an alert or notification of some kind that will get her attention.

Can anyone see another technological solution to the problem that I might be missing? It's a bit maddening that this solution seems to be sitting right there in plain sight, but not accessible in the form I need it. The watch is obviously registering the event of the phone disconnecting, it's just doing it very very quietly. grr.
