Hi... these last few updates seems to have removed the ability to keep your videos in full screen mode.
It now puts it in a small square picture which means you lose most of what you were filming. And zooming out does not help because again you are losing most of what you are filming.
So how do I use full screen or get the full screen mode in iMovie?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that when you record a video for an iMovie project on your iPhone, it's not in full screen. This is also preventing you from seeing all of the recorded video on playback.
If videos that were recorded on your iPhone while it was in Portrait mode are being cut off, the playback area can be changed by editing the video clip in the timeline on your iMovie project. Select the video clip, then tap the magnifying glass with a + sign that appears at the upper-right of your screen, then pinch to zoom out on the video:

You obviously didn’t take the time to read my full message.
Because you completely missed the part where I said “zooming out does not help because again you are losing most of what you are filming.” You can only zoom in/out when you select the magnifying glass.
Through my own research, from an unrelated non-Apple site, I learned that the 2020 upgrade no longer includes full screen mode. So the only way to “trick” the app is to video everything in Landscape mode. Then it will automatically fill up the full screen when converted to iMovie.
