I have uploaded a lot of my files ie documents and videos ... when I go into the file app and select recents at bottom all the files i have been in show up so I went and deleted all the recent files but they also delete them from the actual files aswell !! How do I switch off recent files so I don’t see history of files I have been in as I share my iPad with family members and there’s some that children can’t see

At present, it’s not possible to edit or disable the “recent” documents list.
Apple invite, and you may wish to consider, providing appropriate feedback to Apple - highlighting this problem and requesting that they consider adding the ability to either edit or disable the list.
