No you can not change the RAM after the computer is manufactured. The "Configurable to 16GB of memory" that Sharhari refers to applies when ordering a built-to-order computer. It means they can install 16GB at the factory during manufacture.

We can certainly offer to help determine if what RAM you have now can work better for you.
If you are experiencing issues that suggest you need more RAM, please post them. Often, a symptom thought to be RAM starvation turns out to be something else. Anti-virus and so-called "cleaning" apps can drag down performance; some people find out that 8GB works for them once they rid their computer of useles. Adware can slow a computer too regardless of how much RAM is installed.
We can likely determine this in one step if you post a snapshot of your system configuration. Fortunately there is a safe, secure way to do that.
We can quickly and within the confines of these forums help you determine if software issues are the problem if you use EtreCheck, available free from the Mac App Store here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/etrecheck/id1423715984?mt=12
We can also see hard data about drive performance and RAM usage. Etrecheck is the development of a long-serving and trusted contributor here expressly for displaying information in these forums to help us help you. It will not reveal any personal or secure information.
Run it, select “Report" from the left-hand pane (scroll down to the bottom of that pane to find)
When its report displays, click the "Share Report" icon from EtreCheck’s toolbar and then "Copy report” from the resulting dropdown.
⚠️ Please DO NOT highlight the text in the report before using Etrecheck’s “Copy report” command—that will garble the formatting and make the report slower and harder to evaluate.
Changes in late 2018 to the forum software require you use the “Additional Text" icon (see example below) to embed the report into a post:
Paste the report into the resulting “Additional Text” window.
Yes it is configurable, As per the link with the specs : https://support.apple.com/kb/SP775?locale=en_US
Note: Memory
Devices in sockets have always been a huge source of unreliability and problems.
Since about 2013 models, Apple has moved to solder down the RAM chips to improve reliability, and have been soldering down more and more components as time goes on.
The dilemma for users who want more is that DIRECT upgrades are now impossible. You need to convert your existing computer to CASH (by selling it) and use the cash to purchase a computer that better meets your needs.
Sorry for my error, Bob thanks for clearing out!
