Clearing One reminder clears all reminders

IOS 13.5

Consistently for all my reminders (Which are all repetitive reminders.), clearing one reminder notification clears all my reminder notifications when I swipe left even though the text clearly shows “Clear” and not “Clear all”. I use this as a check list, so it ends up being a huge waste of my time to have to try to remember what notifications I got for that day that I did not want to clear and look at a list of a hundred reminders to try and figure it out. The reminder app has no way of showing what notifications were dismissed for that day when using repetitive reminders.

I am having difficulty reproducing the error by creating new reminders. I am guessing it is related to repeated reminders but I cannot think of an easy or quick to reproduce the error because I don’t like waiting an hour or a day for each attempt to duplicate the error.

If anyone has suggestion on better app, I am happy to hear it, but I want an app that allows easy importing and exporting. Every time I try a new reminder app like google calendars or other google reminder apps (Which didn’t even work at all on iphone and is the reason I switched to apple), I end up with hundreds of reminders scattered over several apps and devices and it has completely overwhelmed me at this point.

This website is also buggy, Clicking post didn’t work until I clicked refresh which caused me to lose all the text I typed earlier.

Argh! I just typed a WHOLE thing and it got lost. Or they don't want me to post so much! ha ha

Hi,

Thought I'd share that I found two solutions to the Reminders issue. The first is a work around for clearing a Reminder. When it pops up - you have to click View - this will open it, then you can Clear it and it won't clear any of the other Reminders currently showing. At least that was my experience for a week of testing!

However, before I figured out the above, I had found and bought an app called Due. It was a bit of a risk for me, because it was $6.99 and I don't really like spending money on apps, and when I do, I'm usually cheap and stay under $5. lol

But I've been very happy with it. I used it along side the Reminders app for about a week and a half before I decided the Due app was great on it's own.

What I really like is that it utilizes a Snooze function that you set ( opts are every 1, 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes) and when you Clear a reminder, it will pop up again in X minutes. It will keep doing this until you actually check OK. When you click a Reminder it has no impact on the others. There's a fair amount of customizing you can do and set a default template for Reminders - which can be changed to suit each Reminder as needed. I often enter notes in my Reminders and was concerned there wasn't a place, because there's no separate field. But there is ample room to include notes in the same field you name your Reminder. I just enter them below and so far haven't hit a limit in that field. In the app the Reminders are grouped chronologically - Today's at top, Tomorrow's below and so forth. There's also a page that shows you all Reminders that have been marked as Done. You can also easily clear recurring Reminders for the day in the app if you just don't want them to pop up/keep popping up. You can also easily - but not so easily you accidentally - delete Reminders entirely. It also has a Timer function that also offers Snoozes, etc. - but haven't used it yet. I don't know that it has an import/export options - I realized you had mentioned that being important. I've always set my reminders manually, so I'm not familiar with doing that (and might even misunderstand what you mean).

There are 3 situations where you can MISS a reminder:

1 - If your phone ringer is off, the Reminder tone will not be heard. It will still pop up on your screen and continue to pop up on your screen at your Snooze intervals. But if you rely on hearing the Reminder tones - you'd need to keep your ringer on. I don't know if this is a setting issue or if there's a work around - I haven't really looked into it, because it's not an issue for me.

2 - If you do NOT set a Snooze, clearing the Reminder will clear it for good. Or until the next day, week, etc. if it's a Recurring Reminder.

3 - Tied to #2, if you open your lock screen without touching any Reminders showing, it will clear them from your screen. If they do not have a Snooze set - they will not show up again unless they're Recurring. But if they do have a Snooze set - they will continue to pop up at set intervals.

I've mitigated #2 & 3 by setting my Default template to include a 60 min Snooze. That way, I can change the Snooze time as needed for each Reminder, but if I forget - I won't accidentally lose track.

Anyway - I thought it was worth coming back and letting you know. Had I figured out the work around to the ios Reminders, I wouldn't have bothered to look any further. But I'm glad I did find the Due app, because for me, it's been absolutely wonderful - better than the Reminders and I don't have to worry about missing/clearing important Reminders. It might be worth checking it out to see if it would work for your needs, too. But if not, hopefully, the work around I figured out will do until Apple actually fixes the issue! But we all know not to hold our breath. lol

Hope you and yours have a safe & fun 4th!

I managed to reproduce the error.

1 Create daily reminder and specify time.

2 Create 2nd daily reminder and specify time.

Wait a day, swipe one notification, observe other notification was not removed. It is working as intended at this point.

3 After waiting a day, mark both tasks as complete (May be able to duplicate error by just marking one)

4 Wait another day, swipe one of the reminders that was marked complete yesterday. Both reminders notifications are now removed (along with all my other reminder notifications for that day.)

This bug is driving me crazy and I would love it if Apple would fix this so I don’t feel like I am just submitting bugs to a black hole.

also, please stop auto correcting my numbers when I type in this form e..g 3. Turns into 1. With no way to override.

The short explanation is I think think a repeated reminder completes and then swiping it in the future causes all reminders to get cleared. If I try to fix it by delete my completed reminders, I accidentally delete the whole reminders and have to remember what the reminder said and re-created because there is no way to restore.

I guess other people don't use reminders the way I do, because I cannot find a single example of this online but it definitely an easily reproduced bug.

I have this exact same issue and it's driving me crazy. Your post is literally the only I can find about it. Everything else I see is all about how to clear ALL reminders. I am extremely frustrated because I use my reminders the same way you do. I was hoping someone would have a solution or, as you asked, a suggestion for another app that would work. If you figure it out or find an app - if you don't mind, would you let me know? And I'll do the same. =)

Thanks for your reply. I might check out that new app, thanks for the suggestion, I don’t mind paying money, tbh, all the free reminder apps don’t work the way I want and require too much of a time investment, I am afraid that I would have the same experience with paid apps but would have to waste money trying many different apps instead, I am not sure why there are not trial apps available.

Both my post and your post are lengthy, and I think that is a direct result of a poorly designed product that is not intuitive to use, I judge Apple harshly for this as I have come to expect better from them.

I like your info but the reminder app doesn’t work that way for me. If I click one then try to swipe, I get a delete or flag option which is not what I want. If I hold then click remind me tomorrow, it still clears my other reminders. The app still forces me to memorize things which is a terrible user experience for an app that is supposed to remind people.

What has sometimes worked for me is deleting and recreating the reminder and never marking a repetitive reminder as complete. It is hard me to be 100% confident because I have a lot of reminders and it is very time consulting to carefully manually recreate every reminder.

It’s obvious Apple created too many features with this app without doing adequate testing. They should be spending at least 10 times more time testing their new features than they spend developing them, because they are doing a terrible job of quality control with this app imo. More than likely, if they fix this, they will just break something else.

I really wish Apple would pay more attention to the user experience, Apple succeeded in the past because they considered experiences like this to be completely unacceptable.

Or maybe a reminder app is just very difficult to design for some reason as I am still struggling to find one that doesn’t suck lol.
