iMac (27-inch, Late 2014)

When I turn off the iMac, the application icons and menu bar disappear, but the dock bar and background screen continue on the display for about 20 minutes. Then, the very initial screen appears asking which user will log in. What is be happening? How to fix?

You can save us asking dozens of questions by submitting a report...

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

There are still components of ESET install and some appear to be running. Seldom can you uninstall things anymore by simply dragging the app icon to the Trash. Apps tend to use a lot of helpers that remain behind. Check with ESET for full removal instructions.

You have two "login helper" apps. Neither is probably needed--I now I would not install something like that--as the OS can do that for you. Having two different products trying to do the same task is not good practice.

Try turning off your VPN and see if the problem persists.
