Kernel panics are indicative of possible hardware failure, so you should Check your Mac with hardware diagnostics or AHT. Kernel panic logs are found in: /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ folder.

If you have no success figuring what is happening then you may need to examine the software you have running when the panics occur. Be sure it’s all current. If you must to resolve the problem erase the disk and reinstall macOS. Follow this outline to reset the computer to the factory-new state: Factory reset of your Mac - Apple Support.

Boot Into Safe Mode

  1. If your Mac isn’t already shut down, then shut it down and wait at least 30 seconds before rebooting.
  2. Immediately, at or before the chime, press and hold down the SHIFT key.
  3. Release the key after the Apple logo and progress bar appear.
  4. Safe mode startup is much slower than normal startup, so be patient.
  5. When the Login Screen appears enter your admin password. If you use automatic login, then this means you are in safe mode.

Kappy -- Thanks for your detailed tips. But, since Catalina 10.15.5 upgrade, I get that panics as well. Never before. So, I get the list you're suggesting, but It just seems like it is introduced by the upgrade. At least, that is what I see. I'll try some of your hints, but they seem pretty standard support to me: erase everything and install again type of answer, like apple support often do. Or should I say Microsapple. They're heading that way :-)

Anyway: it is helpful !! no offence... just frustration

Update on this : this happens when my big LG monitor is connected when going/coming back to sleep. Without anything connected, it comes back fine from sleep. looking further...

Disconnect the external monitor. In Energy Saver preferences set the GPU to integral or discrete but NOT automatic. Turn off Power Nap. Turn on Don't put computer to sleep when display sleeps. See if that helps. I know it's temporary. As of now there is nothing coming from Apple. If it's a Catalina bug, then maybe it gets fixed by the upcoming new update to Catalina.

10.15.6 fixed it for me !!! I was working with Apple support for several weeks without solution. They said it was very likely coming from external installed software. They could not identify which one... I was convinced it was not, as it was introduced with ;y upgrade to 10.15.5 and the kernel panic occurred only with my external monitor attached and the log showed always the AMD graphic card to crash ... Anyway, the new update doesn't say anything about fixing this. You can read it here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211289

They probably don't want to admit. But still, happy it's fixed

I am on a Mac Pro 2019 with high end specs.

I facing panic on sleep most of the time as well as frequent disconnection of my Promise Pegasus3 external TB3 raid unit.

The last crash on sleep left this panic error:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801029167c): Wake transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily. Thread 0x3ec4e6.

I was facing the issue on 10.15.4 but it's even worse on 10.15.5.

I have tried disconnecting everything, no difference whatsoever...

Cheers,

Bernard

As of today with a 10.15.5 2019 16-inch Pro I am seeing this on a daily basis.

My configuration:

  • Ultrawide samsung monitor connected with HDMI via Apple's dongle
  • Power plugged into separate port

Apple really needs to get it together and fix this.
