I am using FCPX 10.4.6.
I have 20 video clips on my timeline.
In the bottom of FCPX's window, there is a button you can normally grab to scroll horizontally through your Timeline.
This button disappears while trying to grab it.

The behavior of scroll bars is governed by a setting in System Preferences->General.
You may want to change this and see if it works better for you. I have it set to the first option, but you may prefer another one.
