Apple TV 4K WIFI Speed Much Slower than Other WIFI Devices

My AppleTV 4K wifi speed is much slower than other wifi connected devices in my house. I can get 500-600 Mbps down on my MBP or iPhone standing next to my ATV which will only get at most 20 Mbps down on the same 5GHz network. I've tried all the usual things like forgetting the network, restarting the ATV, restarting the router, changed my 5GHz band to a discreet channel, and I even did a factory reset of my ATV. Nothing helped. Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you for your help! Interestingly enough, the tvOS update 13.4.6 cleared up my issue with the slow speed on my ATVs.

There could be multiple reasons for that such as your router is too far from the Apple TV, the router and/or modem have out of date firmware, or you simply have too many devices for your router to handle and you need a network upgrade. Begin by using an app that tests the strength of the Wi-Fi signal, if you have a Mac use iStumbler to test. You can also simply restart and reset your Modem and Router, yes even if other devices seem to be okay.

Then please measure your network strength in the area the Apple TV is iocated. Please answer:

- How many networking devices do you have connected to the router?
- What is the approximate square footage of your home?
- Is your home multi story or single level.?

It isn't about speed as much as it is coverage. I'd suggest looking in to a Mesh Network more, you sound like a prime candidate.

Personally I added one about 1.5 years ago, best thing I did. Since installing, no dropouts on the Apple TV. The one I settled on was the Google Mesh, simple to set up and so far dead reliable.

How many networking devices do you have connected to the router? 5 on the 5ghz, 3 on the 2,4ghz
What is the approximate square footage of your home? 3700 sqft, my router is about 20 ft from my ATV (on the same floor)
Is your home multi story or single level.? multi-story

I'm aware of them but I've never looked into it. I did fail to mention that my house has three levels. I have my modem/router on the main floor and an access point in my basement. My basement is where I'm having the issues. My AP is hardwired to my main floor router and on everything in my basement other than my ATV I get the same average speeds (600 mbps). Just boggles my mind that I can stand next to my ATV and get 600 mbps down on my iPhone and 20 mbps down on my ATV. I tried moving the ATV out of my stereo cabinet as well but to no avail.

For grins, I connected my basement ATV to my main floor router SSID and got around 200 mbps down. I then switched back to my basement AP SSID and again got 20 mbps.

I know I can just connect to the main floor router but at the same time I sacrifice a ton of speed on my iPhone and MBP when I'm in the basement when connected to the main floor router. Plus I use apps like VLC and Infuse to play stuff off my MBP and need to be on the same network to get them to work correctly.

From what i can tell you may be a good candidate for a Mesh Network system due to the size and lay out of your home. Have you ever considered a Mesh network and are you aware of them?
