MacBook (Retina 12 inch, 2017) update from Mojave 10.14.6 to Catalina. Please Help!

Currently running Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6 on MacBook (12inch, 2017) but not being able to update to Catalina through App Store or USB Install. When selecting the hard drive to install, it says you must be running macOS Catalina 10.15 or later to install onto this volume.

How to solve and i don't wanna do a fresh install as that'd wipe all the data from the hard drive and i can't afford to do that.

Please help.

Hi,

I did exactly that just again now, I deleted the previous downloaded installer/upgrade from the App Store and then re-download it. I received the same error yet again upon trying to update from Mojave to Catalina.

Any other suggestions you might have?

That sounds like an update to Catalina, not the Upgrade to Catalina.

But the screen looks like it is the Catalina installer.

I would delete the installer you have and download it again from the App Store.

Hey Barney,

Thank you for the prompt response to help me but I exactly did that already what you asked because I was also under the idea that maybe I didn't use the installer the first time but the result is the same. :(
