Swipe off apps

After using the camera or text is it best to swipe them off?

trout-man ~ If you're referring to force closing apps, Apple says: "You should force an app to close only if it’s unresponsive." [Source]

After using the camera I tap the home button and can't see that the camera is open. Then I usually double tap the home button and see the minimized camera and swipe it off because I thought it continued using up the battery.
