Leaving the Pages window open

When I open Pages, and select a document, the Pages window closes. When I close the document I have to go back to the icon to reopen the Pages application. Is there a way to lead the application window open after reviewing a document without having to reopen it every time?

Why not just click on the Pages document icon and use Quick Look (spacebar). You can review the document without even opening the Pages application — until you are ready to do so.
