Time Capsule

Is it possible for me to use my 4th gen Time Capsule as an external hard drive/ external storage for my windows 10 pc


I have looked all over the internet and have not been able to find a solution for my predicament

Not recommended. The real problem here is that the Time Capsule uses older SMB1 communications and Windows 10 has completely disabled SMB1 for security reasons. So, the products are not really compatible at all.


Last time I checked, Microsoft would still allow SMB1 to be manually enabled on Windows 10, but they advise strongly against doing this. I haven't checked on the status of this issue in a few months though.


Things would be tons easier for you and a lot safer if you simply add a USB drive to the PC and store data in that manner.


Another thought would be that a 4th Gen Time Capsule is at least 7 years old and as much as 9 depending on when it was placed into service. You would not want to store any data that you cannot afford to lose on a product with an average useful life of about 5 years. Frankly, the Time Capsule is overdue to fail at this point.


IF.....you are the type that like to live dangerously, Google "enable smb1 on Windows 10". You are on your own.
