I am getting a Mac mini M1. I currently have a MacBook Pro Oct 2018 that I am trading into apple for it. My MacBook has an external hard drive that I have been using as a Time Capsule. Is there a way I can use it for a Time capsule for the new Mac mini?-or do I need to get a new external hard drive?

You can use the same drive. However, not knowing what OS you have backup currently it may be better to use a new clean drive with Big Sur and keep your old drive in case it is needed later to restore.

Just connect and if it asks to keep the old backup just confirm yes.
that would depend on how the external hd connects
if it's usb-a or c it should work without a converter
I have Big Sur. I would like to know if I would be able to use the same External HD with my new. Mac mini M1. Is there something I need to do with it first? Do I need to use the external Hard Drive to set up the new machine?
