block Microsoft Teams automatic startup; Teams automatically installs a login item every time it starts

Microsoft Teams installs a login item for my user id for itself every time it starts. The next time I login, Teams will startup.

I can, of course, remove it from the System Preferences/Users & Groups/Login Items list but doing this is a pain -- it has to be done every time I use Teams. Of course, Teams itself has no user controls for this 'feature'. To all appearances this is a Microsoft ploy force the use of Teams.

Is there a way to:

1. disable Microsoft Teams automatic installation of itself in the Login Items list?
2. lock the Login Items process so that Teams cannot change the Login Items?

Way back in the past one could lock a login items plist file to accomplish this but I cannot find such a file in Catalina.
