If you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you have no alternative other than to follow this process:

You will need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).
If you don’t own a PC or Mac, a helpful friend or relative’s PC/Mac will suffice - or, when Apple Stores reopen, you can visit the Genius Bar for assistance.
You will also need your AppleID credentials.
If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

You will need to erase it with iTunes (or finder on a Mac running MacOS Catalina) to re-enable it. Without a backup, you're going to lose data on the device as you have no way to restore it without one.
And the erase/restore in iTunes is the only way to reset the forgotten passcode - there is no other option to accomplish that.
I bought my grandaughter an ipad about 5 years ago....she locked herself out of it and it says to connect to itunes .. could you help me get back in?
