I tried different ways but the Finder-Application-Iphoto shows a cross.

And when I click on iPhoto. Says Photo isn’t supported in this version of macOS. Please upgrade to Photos.

My photos are upgraded. At one point it told me to update to Catalina. still not able to.

Youtube shows that there is just a simple click but I think my IPhoto is closed and thats the problem.

I have all my kids photo (about 1.5g) I dont want to lose them. please assist step by step.

Your question is not clear, but it appears that you just upgraded to Catalina and lost access to iPhoto. Support for iPhoto was discontinued years ago when it was replaced with Photos. You can use Photos to upgrade your iPhoto Library. Launch Photos (the multicolored flower icon) with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will use your iPhoto media to create a new Photos Library. Your iPhoto Library will not be changed.

Find and launch the Photos app (it will be in your Applications folder and may also be in the Dock) with the Option key held down. In the Open Library window select the iPhoto library you want to migrate to Photos and open it. The rest is automatic.

This user tip and Apple document should shed some more light on the process: Notes on Migrating an iPhoto Library from iPhoto to Photos for Mac and  Updating from iPhoto to Photos for macOS – Apple Support

As mentioned when I am in the Application, The IPhoto has a cross in the circle.

I dont understand when you say

"with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will use your iPhoto media to create a new Photos Library. Your iPhoto Library will not be changed.".

PLEASE GIVE DIRECTION THAT A SIMPLE PERSON CAN UNDERSTAND.

I repeat. I need to transfer 1.5 gig of pictures from iPhoto to Photo. Please advise. Thank you
