I am trying to download HBO MAX onto my apple tv, but when I come across it on the app store, it only has an "UPDATE" option, and when I click on that it asks for a password to an APPLE ID account that isn't even signed into my apple tv device anymore...
Any suggestions on how to get past this?
Delete the app with the wrong account. Then download a fresh version with the wanted account.

HBO dropped support for the Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier). You will have to look for a different model device for their service.
Apps can be downloaded to Apple TV, and later deleted, on Apple TV (4th generation or later).
“Apps” are preconfigured on Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier), and cannot be deleted (by the user) on these models.
How do you delete an app on Apple TV? I actually reset the device entirely and never logged in with the wrong ID and it still shows up as the only choice to login for the Apps.

Indeed, HBO MAX is available on Apple TV (4th generation or later).
So how do I download HBO Now on the 3rd generation. I have no 4th generations
