Can I just use WiFi without Bluetooth

What is the reasoning to have both Bluetooth and WiFi on in order for my watch series 4 to work? I seem to be having some security issues since March and I hear having Bluetooth on 24/7 puts you at risk. Can’t I just use WiFi since I’m home 24/7 these days?

its my understanding that it switches between the two to decide which one to use. I’d rather Bluetooth be off!

WiFi is not going to work when you leave the house.

The Apple Watch does not create a private WiFi connection. It and your iPhone need to be logged into the same WiFi network. When you leave the house, you will no longer be talking to your iPhone via WiFi.

If you have a cellular Apple Watch, you may be able to get away with that, but cellular radio also uses more power than Bluetooth, and when you have your iPhone with you, the Apple Watch would prefer to use Bluetooth to conserve battery, even when away from home.
