iCloud activation lock

I bought an iPhone X from someone and it turns out the iphone had an icloud activation lock. They ghosted me and now I have this useless thing and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Unfortunately here is no way for you or anyone else to "fix"it. Activation Lock is an anti-theft measure that cannot be bypassed. See this article:

You can't "fix" it. Without the Apple ID and password it's asking for, it will be forever useless.

We fellow users cannot help you. Apple will not help unlock a lost or stolen phone.
