MacBook says my iPhone passcode is incorrect

Hello all. I just received my MacBook Air in the mail and was able to set it up quickly. I have a notification that says “Update Apple ID Settings” which prompts me to enter my iCloud and computer passwords. Both work fine but then it asks to enter my phone passcode and I get an error message.

The passcode is 100% correct as I can use it to unlock my iPhone, but I am unable to get it to work on my laptop.

The error message reads:

“Verification Failed

There was an error verifying the passcode of your phone.”

I have contacted Apple Support but they seem to be backed up and have been unable to help. Does anyone know what may be going on or how to fix this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device.

If necessary

Hard reset.

If there are restrictions in Screen Time that are preventing access, you will need to restore the device to factory settings. Do not restore from a backup made when the Screen Time code was active.

If there aren't any Screen Time restrictions, do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting.

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
