Reuse Apple ID as an Alias

I have two apple IDs. I would love to use my Apple ID #2 as the alias of Apple ID #1.

What can I do?

Apple ID #1:

abcd@gmail.com

Alias of Apple ID #1:

ab.cd@me.com

ab.cd@icloud.com

Apple ID #2:

abcd@me.com

abcd@icloud.com

Thanks.

Vincent

You cannot delete the alias you mention. Below is some basic information on changing your Apple ID. But read the whole document linked below. And you will need to go to your Apple ID account (appleid.apple.com) for additional information.

See Change your Apple ID https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667.

See this basic information:

1.   Sign out of iCloud on all of your devices, including your iPhone, Mac, Apple TV, and PC. If you use the Apple Music app on an Android device or use the Apple TV app a smart TV, sign out of those apps.

2.   Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.

3.   In the Account section, choose Edit.

4.   Choose Change Apple ID.

You can sign out of iCloud on one of your devices, or you can sign out on all your devices to stop using iCloud (for sign out purposes, see 1 above). Before you sign out of iCloud, make sure that you archive or make copies of the information that you store in iCloud. When you sign out of iCloud, you can't access or use the following services on your devices or

Hi donv,

I went to appleid.apple.com and signed in with my Apple ID #1 (abcd@gmail.com) with the intention to change it to Apple ID #2 (abcd@me.com) but an error message appeared, reading " You can only add the @me.com address that is already on file in your account."

Do I need to delete Apple ID #2 (abcd@me.com) before doing so? I am worried that it will be permanently unusable after deleting so wanted to make sure I am doing the right thing.

Additional information:

  1. Apple ID #1 is where all my data and purchases are maintained.
  2. Apple ID #2 has never really been used.

If you have 2 Apple IDs, you can't merge Apple IDs or their email addresses.

Reference deleting ID 2, there have been posts by people who have contacted Apple Support and they were told that if you delete an ID associated with an email address, you can never reuse the email address for an Apple ID.  I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again. You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID.

You say: "You can only add the @me.com address that is already on file in your account." That is true because your Apple ID is a 3rd-party Apple ID. Note that you said "add." I think "change to" is the idea. Is there an email alias ending in iCloud.com or mac.com in your Apple ID account (https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin). If yes, you can change to either.
