Apple Watch Says “Installation Paused” when trying to install WatchOS 6.2.5

It is an Apple Watch series 3 (I had it paired to my old phone). I was trying to pair my Apple Watch to my new iPhone 11 (running on 13.5). I did the erase and reset on my watch and am trying to pair it like it is a new watch. My phone recognizes it as a new watch and can pair, but I can’t finish setting it up without updating to WatchOS 6 (previously on 5). I am able to download and prepare the WatchOS update for installation. It then says “installation paused— to install the update, Apple Watch must be connected to its charger and charged to at least 50%,” the watch is on its charger and is at 100%. How do I get the update to install, so I can finish setting it up?

Hello ANONYMOUS8520,

I understand you've been unable to pair your Apple Watch to your new iPhone due to issues installing the watchOS update. I'd like to help you out with this.

Are you trying to complete the update through your iPhone, or are you doing it directly through the watch itself? If you're doing it through the watch, try doing it through the iPhone instead, or vice versa. Here are steps that will help: Update your Apple Watch. Make sure to follow the steps under the "Before you begin" section as well.
