Ipad screen turns on and off repeatedly

My iPad won't stop turning on and off repeatedly. I have no control over what is doing. I don't get the home screen at all, just the apple symbol then nothing. I have tried pressing the home button and power button at the same time every time the apple symbol appears over and over as suggested online but it just won't stop the cycle. Appreciate any help bearing on mind I don't have access to iTunes at the moment. Thanks

Have you tried a simple hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

Good Luck!
