Software does not work properly after shutting down and start to work again

In Macbook air should I shut down it after each working session or just close it? The problem is when I have shut down it the next day I have to start my working application again from the beginning, and no saved documents were in them. What is the problem?

What app is it?

When you shut down, do you leave the checkbox selected to resume apps when you restart?

In the General System Preferences, what is set for Asking to keep changes and Closing documents?


Checking the box in the Restart/shutdown dialog and leaving the two boxes unchecked in General System Preferences should achieve what you want.

You should be able to leave documents open without saving and they should open back up on restart.


If you select "ask to keep changes when closing documents," it should ask you if you want to save or not.

If you select "close windows when quitting an app," the documents will not reopen when you restart.
