MacOS Catalina - Downloading installer information to the target volume failed

I upgraded my Macbook Pro to Catalina, but I forgot to do a full backup before the upgrade. When I tried to restore the older version of OS, the processs deleted the disk where the OS image was located. I could not restart the system, and I need to use the recovery to install a new copy of OS Catalina, system indicated the error message " Downloading installer information to the target volume failed". How should I overcome this problem ? Any advise ?

Hey TJ_Goh,

I see that you're having trouble installing macOS Catalina.

Are you able to start up the MacBook Pro? If so, try starting in safe mode then see if you can run the installer this way: How to use safe mode on your Mac. Then, restart the Mac normally.

If you're unable to start up the Mac normally, you can enter macOS Recovery and run Disk Utility to check the disk for system errors: Repair a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support.
