Apple Watch "Log in to paired iphone" for Facebook Messenger

My messenger and apple watch were working fine and randomly stopped. Messenger continually tells me to log in to the paired iphone when trying to load Facebook Messenger. I have restarted both my phone and watch, unpaired and repaired, deleted the app from both and redownloaded. Nothing is working. If I delete the app from my watch the Facebook Messenger messages will come through and let me reply but if the app is downloaded I wont get a message on my watch and the Messenger app just says, "log in to the paired iphone".

HELP!!!

What I did is to log out of my messenger app from my iphone, and just re-logged in. After which my watch was able to read all of my conversations again. I actually have 3 facebook accounts, and each time I logged in to that account via messenger, it automatically refreshes right away. Hope that helps.

The only thing that worked for me: (and it may be temporary)...

  • Go to iwatch app on iphone - General - Auto App Install ON
  • delete Messenger app on watch (you wont lose past data)
  • delete messenger app on iphone (u wont lose data)
  • go to app store on Iphone and download messenger, sign in
  • go to iwatch and dont install App again because it should now be there since ur phone is on auto app install to watch
  • when u open messenger app on the watch, it will ask u if u want notifications. Say NO... otherwise it doesnt work. Your messages should now load but u wont get notifications.

Hello, go to app store and update your messenger. It worked for me. I have the same issue two weeks ago. The do the procedures, delete the app from the watch (on the watch itself and not through the app on your phone)

Delete the app from your phone make sure Automatic app installed is off in the watch app Re-download the app on your phone re-download the app on your watch. Log in automatically.

I tried some of one of the suggested fix here (deleting FB messenger on both watch and device etc.). It worked for some time but it will ask you to log in to the paired iphone again. It looks like the problem is on the app itself. Got a few messenging apps on my phone and all of them work perfectly fine except for this one (viber, whatsapp etc.). I suggest that folks experiencing this problem report it to FB as well to gain more traction and attention. Hope they fix the problem asap. Thanks.

I have the same issue and I have only had it less than two days

I have tried everything and I’ve also completely wiped both devices and started afresh. So it’s nothing that I’ve done

i have noticed on the App Store it says the last messenger update was two days ago. Bit of a coincidence. My bets are it’s a glitchy update. I’ve done everything I can to fix it and there is just no more options

Mine only did it once and once it was fixed was ok, until a day ago when it updated again! Yesterday it logged out every five minutes and it’s driving me mad. I’ve posted feedback on the App Store reviews as I can’t find a way of contacting the developers. It’s obviously something to do with their update as I’ve had the Apple Watch two months and it worked completely fine until last week when the update installed
