When having a hardware keyboard connected to my iPad, is there any way to turn of the control + space keyboard shortcut to switch the keyboard language, it is super annoying.

You can switch the control key to perform a different function via the Modifier Keys setting under Hardware Keyboards. But presumably this would mess up other shortcuts you do want to use.
