I set my iMac to boot in verbose and single mode, but now when I try to boot the computer it just takes me to a screen where I’m unable to boot to OSX

I was having issues booting from USB and recovery mode was not always working correctly so I set the computer to boot in verbose and single mode.

Now when it boots it takes me to a

menu that says to mount the root device as read-write:

$ /sbin/mount -x /

to boot the system:

$ exit

but whenever I exit i can go to recovery mode and try to disable verbose and single user mode but it doesn’t work.

Any help on booting to a USB Catalina install disk?
