Audio Issues with MacBook Air

I'm experiencing a couple of audio issues on my 2020 MacBook Air that appear to be related:

  1. Internal speakers: I have owned my MacBook Air for 2 months, but as of a few weeks ago, I started experiencing a bit of distortion when watching a movie or listening to music using the MacBook internal speakers. The distortion doesn't always come out of the same speaker. This issue doesn't happen all the time, and I am sometimes able to fix the problem by resetting the NVRAM.
  2. Bluetooth microphone: On my MacBook Air, my voice often comes out garbled on conference calls (Zoom, Skype, etc.) when using the microphone on my bluetooth headphones. I don't have this issue with my phone, only with my MacBook. This issue doesn't happen all the time, and I am sometimes able to fix the problem by restarting the computer.

I assume this is a software issue, not a hardware issue. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service after the stores re-open. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD). You may also get Apple authorized service at a local Best Buy.

If you have a distorted sound output from the mic on your headset, then it may be due to having the Input volume set too high. It may also be due to a poor impedance match between the headset mic and the audio input on the computer. Not all headsets have the input and output impedances that closely match those of the computer. Some headsets work well, and others do not. That's been my experience with at least a dozen headsets I've tried.

Thanks for responding. However I'm not sure how those options would be related to my internal speakers acting up when I'm not using the headset.
