Activation lock!

I bought an iPad mini for my son some years ago. I recently realized it had no restrictions and I wanted to restrict the navigation, but could not remember the code, so I erased it. Now it says activation lock. I had registered it to an Apple ID I created for him. I know the email, but forgot the password. I can’t access the gmail account because I don’t have the password either. I can’t just throw away the iPad. He is very sad and I feel horrible! I need help urgently!

If your device is Activation Locked, this help page will provide most of the information that you’ll need:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201365

If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

Further to my previous reply:

Here is Apple’s support documentation that describes Activation Lock and the methods by which it can be turned-off:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201365

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201441

If you have original documentation (that includes the device serial number) that proves ownership, Apple might be prepared to assist with reset/wipe of the device to a usable state. Otherwise, Apple will not assist - and nobody here will will be able to help.

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply... I already tried that, but as I said on my original message, the system sends an email to change the password on the Apple ID, but I can't access that email either, because I don't have the password. It was done some years ago, when I bought the iPad, and now we can't remember anything about this account, and i can't loose this iPad... there must be a way to verify that the iPad is mine. I bought it through Amazon, so I can prove I'm telling the truth... I need Apple to help me get the password for the Apple ID so I can unlock this iPad... my son is not happy and I feel guilty. All I wanted was to restrict the navigation, to avoid him stumbling on some bad content... and now his iPad is locked and it seems to be my fault... please, HELP!

Hi! Thank you so much for your help! I order this device through Amazon, so I must have proof of purchase on their records. Where do I send this information? Who can I contact? I wanted to send this or contact Apple, support, but have not been able to find contact information to do this... Please, help me with this information. I don't know where else to go to solve this issue.
