Can I upgrade my MacOS or do I need a new laptop?

I have a Macbook Air (13", early 2014) running MacOS Yosemite 10.10.5.

What options do I have for upgrading the OS ? I need to work remotely and use apps that have warned me they will soon be incompatible with MacOS 10.10 versions. Do I need to get a new laptop when this one is still otherwise functioning? Fed up with built-in obsolescence!

Your Mac can update to the most recent mac OS version: 10.15 Catalina.

If you have 32 bit apps you need to keep using, and that will not run on Catalina, update to a lower version.
