my family purchased the storage plan. Apple says your family members can’t see your content unless you choose to share the content. My question is- I am sharing storage with my family, how do I know what f my content is being shared as well?

See the point number 4 - Go back to Family Sharing and make sure that the features you want to share are On.
The question you asked - Apple says your family members can’t see your content unless you choose to share the content - If iCloud storage is turned as off definitely the other members can't view the iCloud storage contents also not all items are shared

You see shared content the same way as you would if you weren't sharing a storage plan (i.e., sharing a storage plan does not give any additional options to share data or content).
