chflags hidden command not working

In the past I've used the Terminal to hide folders I want kept private, using chflag hidden [drag folder here]. It's always worked beautifully. Recently I've attempted it and no luck. Terminal goes through the process but the folder remains in the Finder. I've tried restarting Finder, rebooting the Mac, no luck. Has there been another "upgrade" downgrade that I'm not aware of?

Catalina 10.15.5 The folder is a simple folder, containing data files on an external drive.

[username] chflags hidden/Volumes/Silicone\ 02 Else

Enter

I've done the same thing hundreds of times over the years and It's always worked perfectly. Now, nothing. Often in the past when Mac does an upgrade they destroy element of the system (i.e. dictation which they REFUSE to fix, apparently they don't like handicapped people using their equipment). In any case. This one is rather a mystery.
