Apple ID does not work

So when I go to download a app in the App Store it asks for my password. When I put enter it an error comes up saying verification failed. The application you have selected does not exist. I changed my password twice and it still says the same thing. Somehow my password worked to get into Apple support. Why can’t I download any apps?
