Text messages set to keep forever

I have my text messages set to keep forever but i have found that I only have text messages from a year ago. It appears any texts I have (had) that are from over a year ago are being automatically deleted. Storage availability is not an issue Is anyone else having the same problem?

iPhone 8, iOS 13

Hi there cjslomo,

It sounds as though you're not seeing messages from more than one year ago on your iPhone. I understand that you have checked your storage and there is free storage available.

First, let's check to see if messages in iCloud is turned on, below is a resource that can help:

Keep all your messages in iCloud

Specifically, let's use these steps:

  • "Go to Settings.
  • Tap [your name].
  • Tap iCloud."

Within these settings, are messages in iCloud shown as turned off or on?

Additionally, how long have you had your current iPhone?

Have a great day!

cjslomo,

Thank you for replying back with updated information on your iPhone and what steps you've taken to resolve the issue.

If messages in iCloud is turned off and you have previously made backups to iCloud, depending on when the messages were deleted they may be able to be restored by restoring an iCloud backup.

Below is a resource that can help:
