Can .photoslibrary be accessed by new MacOS

I have been running El Capitan but will be purchasing a new computer that has Catalina.

my photos library is stored on an external drive and runs as it should and created using my old computer (el capitan).

when I get my new computer, can I just target the same photos .photoslibrary without any problems?

i know how to do it, just hoping it will do it and keep location, dates, any modifications etc.

cheers.

iPhoto will not run but Photos will just update your library as necessary. As always, make sure you have a good backup.
