What happens if I "remove" my apple watch before I "erase" it?

I sold my series 3 apple watch. It was automatically removed from my phone when I set up my new watch. I went to "find my Iphone" and removed it from my devices but I didn't erase it before doing this. What does the person who purchased it from me need to do to use it?

If they can't pair the watch with their phone then you need to follow these steps;

On a computer, go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.

Go to Find Iphone.

Select All Devices, then click your Apple Watch.

Click Erase Apple Watch.

Select Next until the device is erased.

Click the remove button next to your Apple Watch.
