What is the membrane for in the ear tips of airpod pro? One of mine came out. Is it necessary?

Hello,

This piece of plastic is the first line of defense between the body’s fluids and earwax. If this has come out then you will need to order a set of replacement tips.

On the inside of the silicone ear piece tip for AirPod pro there is a thin plastic barrier. On one of my ear piece tips that barrier was accidentally removed.

The sound quality does not seem affected. Do I need to buy a replacement tip? I’m guessing that it might be a moisture barrier but am not sure.

Thank you. That is what I suspected. I’ll order a new one. I see that Apple sells them for just $7.95 for two pairs.
