Lightening female to USB-S male for data

I have a FLIR with a lightening male. FLIR contends that a data adapter will allow their camera to work on the iPad Pro if a data adapter is used.

Of course, FLIR doesn’t make such an adapter. Nor can they point to where this unicorn lives.

I’ve searched & found some pretty sketch adapters w/ bad reviews.

Has anyone found a reliable L(f) to USB-C(m) data adapter/cable?

I suspect that you enquires of Flir were misinterpreted.

Direct interconnection of USB-C and Lightning devices is not possible. The two interfaces are electrically incompatible - and use entirely different signalling and protocols. An “active” interface converter would be required - and, to my knowledge, nobody has ever developed or released a commercial device of this type.

With Lightning being an Apple proprietary interface, access to the Lightning interface specification would need to be licensed from Apple. Given the very limited market for an interface converter of this type, even where technically possible, it is unlikely to be commercially viable.

As such, you’ll not be able to connect your Flir Camera, with Lightning connector, to your iPad (or other device) via USB.

Sorry - I’m sure this isn’t what you were hoping to learn.

Converting from Lightning to USB-C is perfectly possible. There are literally tons of adapters out there that do this already.

The FLIR cameras have a built in Lightning male connector to plug into iOS devices. To convert the Lightning connector to a USB connector you can use one of the many available adapters. It just needs to specify data sync. Charging only adapters may not work.

Are just some that come up.

I don’t understand bus tech, but I’ve searched high & low for such a cable and adapter and drew a blank.

Since I posted the question here, FLIR rep Raul Segura, echoed a FLIR telephone tech that stated it would work. Granted, the Amazon link he provided went to a 3⭐️ Review where reviewers stated specifically “will not work on data transfers” and “not compatible with Apple”

Lets just say confidence In FLIR is waining.

Not what I hoped, but was what was suspected.

“Misinterpreted” by two different people was a kind way of phrasing it. But replies from phone support and then again online tech support clearly show understanding of what I was asking...

Question

I had dual use for [the camera] until they changed the iPad Pro connection. I wish you had a lightening to USB-C adaptor so it would once again function on both my iPhone and iPad

Thank you for contacting FLIR Technical Support.

In this case if you have the iPad pro you can purchase an adaptor to connect the lighting connection to the USB-c on the iPad, we do not have the specific brand that it will work.

Make sure the adaptor is to transfer data.

I will close this ticket, however if you have other question please reply back and we will be glad to help you.

Best Regards.

Well, no need beating a dead horse. Maybe I just need to acquire an old iPad for single use.

Thanks QuickPost & LotusPilot! Cheers!
