Cursor moving and clicking by itself suddenly on my mid-2012 Macbook Pro

Cursor moving, clicking, opening apps suddenly by itself on my mid-2012 Macbook Pro. I can't get any work done. No other issues to be reported. Please, please let me know how to correct this issue. As always, thank you.

FYI: 16 mb RAM, 1 tb SSD & a genuine Apple charger.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Check to see if the battery is starting to swell. If you see the Trackpad being pushed up out of the case or you see the Bottom Case separating from the laptop or the laptop no longer sits firmly on a flat surface, then the battery is swelling and putting pressure on the Trackpad. If the battery is swelling you need to stop using it immediately (unplug the charger and power off the laptop) and have the laptop repaired by Apple or an AASP.

Sometimes when a Trackpad fails it can behave erratically like you describe or if the Trackpad gets wet. If the Trackpad is not damp, then you will need to have the laptop repaired.

HWTech, thank you for the reply.

It would appear that the battery is not an issue. HOWEVER, you reminded me that I did cough a bit the other day (liquid going down the wrong pipe, as they say) and that just may be the culprit. I forgot all about that. IF that is the case, is there a way for ME to fix this...short of taking the machine a part?? I would never tackle taking it a part on my own.

Thank you again and I await your reply.
