I reset my apple ID on my IPhone and when I try to use it on my Mac it says it

I reset my apple ID password on my iPhone but when I try to log into it on my Mac computer as I need to make a change to system preferences I get a message saying the password is invalid? What do I do to sync them?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13
