Hello,
On an iPad Pro 11 with usb-c, when I connect a generic powered usb-c dock (for external screen/ethernet/keyboard) my internal iPad mic cuts out. Unplug the dock, the mic is back.
Tested with voice memo (the recording stops as soon as I plug in/out the dock. The dock has a headphone jack which I left unplugged.
Does anyone have the same experience?

This is a function of the USB Dock. Different manufacturers and models of hub-device handle audio connection in different ways.
Some hubs/docks are more intelligent than others - and only direct audio (and video) to the port when a device is physically connected; others simply direct audio (or video) to [potentially unused] ports. It would appear that yours is one of the latter. If so, other than choosing an alternative hub device, there is nothing that you can do to overcome this hardware limitation of your hub.
In summary, not all hubs are electrically or functionally the same.
Whilst not being able to offer a simple and immediate solution, I hope this insight and clarification is helpful.
