Airplay display only shows "off" how can I turn it on?

Do you have an Apple TV or televisions equipped with capability to use AirPlay? If YES then are they on the same WiFi network as your iMac?
You must have an AirPlay compatible device connected to be able to see it in AIrPlay display.
FYI - iPads, Macs and iPhones cannot AirPlay between each other.
